1. Policy Statement
AJ Cleaning & Property Maintenance is committed to achieving the highest standards of Work Health and Safety (WHS) across all operations. We strive for Zero Harm by eliminating or reducing workplace risks, ensuring legislative compliance, and fostering a proactive safety culture.
2. Objectives
- Protect the health, safety, and welfare of all employees, contractors, clients, and visitors.
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Victoria) and WorkSafe Victoria regulations.
- Implement a robust safety management system with continuous improvement.
- Promote visible safety leadership at all levels of the organisation.
- Provide training, resources, and support to maintain a safe work environment.
3. Scope
This policy applies to all AJ Cleaning & Property Maintenance employees, contractors, subcontractors, clients, and visitors across all work locations, including but not limited to commercial, industrial, retail, aged care, educational, and construction sites.
4. Responsibilities
4.1 Management Responsibilities
- Provide safe systems of work, appropriate equipment, and PPE.
- Conduct regular hazard identification and risk assessments.
- Consult with employees on WHS matters.
- Ensure WHS training and competency requirements are met.
4.2 Employee Responsibilities
- Follow all WHS policies, procedures, and instructions.
- Use provided PPE correctly and maintain it.
- Report hazards, incidents, or near misses immediately.
- Participate in WHS training and meetings.
5. Risk Management
- Systematic identification, assessment, and control of hazards.
- Use of the hierarchy of controls to eliminate or minimise risks.
- Site-specific risk assessments and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS).
- Ongoing workplace inspections and audits.
6. Incident Reporting & Investigation
- All incidents, injuries, and near misses must be reported promptly.
- Investigations will identify root causes and corrective actions.
- Serious incidents will be reported to WorkSafe as required by law.
- Learnings from incidents will be shared to prevent recurrence.
7. Consultation & Communication
- Regular WHS meetings and toolbox talks.
- Open consultation with employees on safety issues.
- Access to safety information, procedures, and policies for all staff.
8. Training & Competency
- Comprehensive induction for all new employees and contractors.
- Task-specific training, including safe chemical handling, equipment operation, and manual handling.
- Ongoing refresher training and skills development.
9. Continuous Improvement
- Regular review of WHS systems and policies.
- Analysis of safety performance and incident trends.
- Implementation of innovative solutions to enhance safety.
