Purpose
AJ Cleaning & Property Maintenance is committed to maintaining a safe, healthy, and productive workplace. The presence and use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace can jeopardize the safety of all employees, clients, and the public. This policy aims to prevent impairment during work hours to minimize risks associated with substance use.
Scope
This policy applies to all employees, contractors, subcontractors, and visitors across all worksites, offices, and client locations where AJ Cleaning & Property Maintenance operates.
Policy Statement
AJ Cleaning & Property Maintenance enforces a strict zero-tolerance approach to illegal drug and alcohol use during work hours. Our commitment includes:
- Prohibition of use, possession, sale, or distribution of illegal drugs and alcohol while on duty, on company property, or at client sites.
- Employees must not attend work impaired by alcohol, illegal drugs, or any substance that may impact safety or job performance.
- Disclosure of prescribed medications or over-the-counter drugs that may affect ability to work safely is required.
- Random and reasonable-cause drug and alcohol testing will be conducted in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
- Support and rehabilitation programs are available for employees seeking assistance with substance-related problems.
Employee Responsibilities
- Comply fully with this policy at all times.
- Report concerns about drug or alcohol misuse in the workplace.
- Inform supervisors confidentially about any prescription or medical condition affecting their work.
- Seek help voluntarily if struggling with substance abuse.
Manager and Supervisor Responsibilities
- Monitor and enforce compliance with the policy.
- Arrange drug and alcohol testing where reasonable suspicion arises or through random testing procedures.
- Provide education and resources about the risks of drug and alcohol use.
- Support employees who seek assistance with substance abuse.
Testing Procedures
Drug and alcohol testing will be conducted by qualified professionals using accredited methods to ensure privacy, dignity, and accuracy. Confirmatory tests will be done for any positive results before action is taken. Testing may be conducted:
- Randomly on a periodic basis.
- Where reasonable cause or suspicion exists.
- Following any workplace incident or accident.
Disciplinary Action
Any employee found violating this policy will be subject to disciplinary procedures which may include:
- Counselling and referral to support services.
- Suspension pending investigation.
- Termination of employment for serious or repeated breaches.
Support and Assistance
AJ Cleaning & Property Maintenance encourages employees to seek help early. Confidential counselling and support services are available to assist employees with substance abuse problems. Employees are encouraged to discuss their situation with management or human resources.
Review and Updates
